Korvosa boasts the largest standing army in Varisia. Though presently at peace, the city has a long history of conflict with the native Shoanti and its soldiers remain ever vigilant for barbarian attack.

• Gray Maidens: A new, all-female military order established by Queen Ileosa and led by her handmaiden Sabina, the Gray Maidens answer only to the Crimson Throne.

• Korvosan Guard: Answerable to the monarchy, the Guard is responsible for securing the streets and patrolling the borders.

• Korvosan Navy: Theoretically answerable to the monarchy, but under the direct authority of the seneschal, Korvosa’s navy is based in the town of Veldraine at the mouth of Conqueror’s Bay.

• Sable Company: Under the monarchy’s authority but ultimately answerable only to the seneschal, the elite hippogriff riders of Sable Company patrol the city’s skies and waterways.

• Hellknights: The Hellknight Order of the Nail is fanatically dedicated to imposing its harsh vision of law and order. Based in Citadel Vraid south of the city, the Hellknights were recently called into Korvosa to restore the peace—for a hefty fee.
